What is a VIN / Chassis Number?

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-character code assigned to every vehicle. It's found on the dashboard, driver's door frame, or vehicle registration documents. In Kenya, the chassis number is commonly used for imported vehicles.

04. VIN LOCATION

WHERE CAN I FIND MY VIN?

Your Vehicle Identification Number can be found in several places.

Dashboard / Windshield

Look through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver's side. The VIN is on a small metal plate.

B-Pillar / Door Jamb

Open the driver's door and check the frame where the door latches — usually on a sticker with tyre info.

Engine Bay / Firewall

Look for a metal plate or stamping on the firewall separating the engine from the cabin.

Vehicle Documents

Check your Logbook (V5C), Insurance certificate, or NTSA inspection report.
